Artist Statement: Unprocessed // Processed
There are certain materials found in the Earth - in the woods and in the oceans, on the ground and in the mountains - most of which are raw matter, unprocessed raw materials.
With these materials, everything in our lives - everything we are surrounded by, and consume, all of these natural resources, which we have used, still use, and create every tool with - have created our entire reality.
If I would have to speak my truth today - from the heart, and from my gut - I would want us to take a step back... Truly look at and observe these objects and materials, understand the true components that have made this table or this paper, sit before you.
We have taken valuable resources from our natural surroundings and I am afraid we have lost touch as to why.
At first thought we were making our lives richer & more efficient, but we have learned that by subtracting the natural beauty of our resources and processing them into objects, we have stripped away it's meaning... it's true identity, it’s purpose, it's beauty.
It became a purpose we decided.
We claimed it to be this or that.
So, I want to strip us of THIS notion.
Can we appreciate true beauty through its natural form?
Can we appreciate our own true beauty within our true forms?
If we cannot honor the materials in our environment, how can we honor our true Selves? Are we not what we make of these items, clothes, furniture, jewelry?
With this thought, I have found my truth.
I can show this Earth gratitude from my heart, from my hands, and share with the world it's inner beauty and create the relationship we once thought was lost, but was always right there.
It is like love.
It is our nature.
Nature is our nature.
Natural beauty is our love. Unprocessed beauty is my truth.
